The person behind CenterClock

Hi, I’m Miguel.
This is personal.

My mom’s center has been part of my life throughout her 24-year Kumon career. I’ve grown up with it—as a student, an assistant, a lead, and someone who helps her on every side of the operation.

CenterClock brings together two things I care about: building thoughtful software and giving students a high-quality learning experience.

Why I’m building it

More attention for students.
Less work getting in the way.

Working in the center, I kept noticing tasks that could be automated and information that could be easier to share. I started building CenterClock to make those everyday processes smoother and help the team communicate better.

For me, efficiency isn’t just about doing things faster. It’s about making room for the work that matters: teaching students, supporting staff, and giving each student the attention they deserve.

I’m still very involved in teaching. That keeps the purpose of this project close to home: the software should support the people in the room, not become another thing they have to manage.

What I bring to the platform

I know the work.
And I know how to build for it.

The student’s perspective

I started as a student and completed the Kumon program. That experience stays with me when I think about what students need from their time in the center.

The team’s perspective

I’ve been an assistant, a lead, and the person helping my mom wherever she needs it. I’ve worked across the center’s roles, so I know how much coordination goes into a good class day.

The engineer’s perspective

I’m a software engineer and a University of California, Santa Cruz graduate. I’m process-oriented: I like understanding how work gets done, finding the repetitive parts, and building a simpler way.

That combination is why I believe I can make CenterClock a great platform: I can connect the details of day-to-day center life with the engineering needed to make them work better. I’m building from firsthand experience, with the students and staff at the heart of it.

What I’m working toward

A better-run center.
A better experience for every student.

That’s the goal behind CenterClock—and the reason I care about getting the details right.

— Miguel
